Research: publication of an article on the « Validation of a psychosocial chronic stress model in pigs »

Frontiers in Behavioral Neuroscience is a leading scientific journal publishing research that advances our understanding of the neural mechanisms of animal and human.

Congratulations to Sophie MENNESON, PhD student at Phodé whose article “Validation of a Psychosocial Chronic Stress Model in the Pig Using a Multidisciplinary Approach at the Gut-Brain and Behavior Levels” has been published.

Psychological chronic stress is of major concern nowadays and has been widely studied in rodent models. Nevertheless, rodent studies have shown limitations regarding their extrapolation to human. As an animal particularly close to humans in terms of anatomy and physiology, notably at the brain level, the pig is particularly relevant to study human mood disorders.

Our model based on social isolation, environmental impoverishment and unpredictability induced behavioral modifications and modulations of the brain and microbiota-gut-brain axis, which were partially or totally reversed by the commonly used antidepressant fluoxetine.

This model will contribute to translational research exploring the mechanisms of chronic stress and to the exploration of innovative intervention strategies, especially with functional food ingredients, with good face validity related to human.
